Ville Raasakka will be teaching on our Composition Masterclass Thursday 8 – Sunday 11 October 2020, on the theme of Material Ecology.

Six active students will attend the masterclass. Preparing for the masterclass, they will compose a piece of 3-6 minutes for flute, cello and guitar.

The price of an Active Student (245 €) includes

  • two individual lessons by Ville Raasakka
  • an individual workshop with the musicians
  • the piece performed in a concert
    • on Sunday 11 October 2020
  • free admittance to all UML concerts
  • homestay accomodation organized by the festival
  • hotel accomodation for 90 € extra charge per night

The price of a Passive Student (50 €) includes:

Ville Raasakka will select six students for the masterclass, to be announced on Monday 8 June 2020. Selected students are required to deliver the score of their finished composition latest by Friday 31 July 2020. 

COMPOSER VILLE RAASAKKA is interested in material ecology, how materials such as wood, coal or oil are formed, extracted and used and how they disperse and affect the environment. Raasakka received a recommendation at the International Rostrum of Composers in 2019 in Argentina. His works have been played by several ensembles and festivals in Europe, the United States and Asia and he has been lecturing in several universities. Raasakka is the producer of the Klang Helsinki concert series.

Raasakka has studied with Veli-Matti Puumala at the Sibelius Academy and privately with Georges Aperghis and participated in masterclasses with Helmut Lachenmann, Georg Friedrich Haas and Hans Abrahamsen. Raasakka is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in composition at the Sibelius Academy, focusing on material ecology.
